- The course focuses on developing practical skills of students to analyze literary works, especially of contemporary French writers. In this course, students will apply the information gained during the course Introduction to Literature study, they learn how to properly structure the analysis of literary works as well as how to use basic narrative terms in practice. Students familiarize with individual trends of literary criticism (structuralism, post-structuralism, postmodern criticism, etc.) and they learn to apply their knowledge and procedures to the analysis of concrete works. The seminar allows students not only to master literary analysis, but also to look deeply into the heart of French literature. The selection of texts is implemented chronologically, so that students can better understand the development of the literature during recent years. The emphasis is put on the analysis of postmodern works and works of contemporary writers. The attention is also paid to the period immediately preceding the end of avant-garde, in order to better understand postmodern texts. During the examination, each student presents a brief analysis of two novellas of discussed writers and of one theoretical work of discussed critics. The aim is to provoke a discussion among students. One of the presented novellas of each student will be accompanied by submitted seminar paper detailed critical analysis.
