Within this course students are acquinted with sociological studies of professions and occupations. One part of the course is dedicated to classical studies of professions (e.g. Marx, Weber, Becker etc), the second one is dedicated to criticism of these studies, especially coming from feminist positions. Students are also acquinted with contemporary theoretical work within this sociological subfield as well as with discussion about current and future orientation of this subfield. Key concepts such as professionalization, professionalism, professional project, managerialism, entrepreneurialism and others are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the impact of current changes within the global labor market, the role of knowledge, state, social stratification, gender etc.
