The aim of the class is to teach students how to process and how to analyze textual, audio, visual and video data by ATLAS.ti software. This type of data is used increasingly in both academic and applied sociology. The first part of the class familiarizes students with complete control of the software and all its functions. Teaching is based on illustrations and solving of model tasks and problems. The first part of the class aims at strategies of qualitative data analysis as well. The second part of class leaves students room for analyses of their own qualitative data possibly data from qualitative data archive.
In this practically oriented course students learn how to analyse quantitative data while they also become familiar with particular phases of a research, so they would be prepared for an independent empirical work. During the semester students have to manage work with a statistical software - from creating the data matrix and saving it to making the univariant and bivariant analysis. The course prepares students for writing an emipirical Bachelor or Master dissertation.
