The goal of the bi-semestral course (USA1X + USA2X) is to enable the students to orientate in the basic terminology, concepts and theories of the social and cultural anthropology; to make them familiar with the works of the important anthropologists; to present them the key anthropological publications and show the particular examples of anthropological research of various kinds of societies. In the framework of the USA2, the topics like political systems, religion and art as well as social differentiation on the basis of gender, agem classes, castes, segments etc. will be reflected from the anthropological point of view. The question of relationship between the language and culture, social construction of reality, anthropological study of urban space and modern complex societies will be dealt as well.The explanation will cover the relevant theories, selected ethnographical and historical examples, relevant publications and the most important researchers in this particular field. The course contains seminary part as well, where the students are expected to work with the relevant texts, audiovisual recordings and ethnographical movies (guided discussions, written interpretations).
