Course objectives:
|
The issue of population and individual ageing is gaining still bigger and bigger attention in social sciences. This course helps students to understand the key debates concerning ageing. Its aim is to introduce students to various perspectives used by social researchers while exploring the issue of ageing. It affords a complex view on ageing in macro and micro perspective and shows how both of these dimensions influence perception of ageing, its place in society and personal experience of ageing. Attention will be paid especially to the individual experience of ageing and factors that influence it. The aim of the course is to present basic concepts and themes linked with the topic of ageing and outline the wide spectrum of questions associated with old age. The course also outlines various research techniques and ethical issues connected with the sociology of ageing. It also strives for interconnecting the knowledge and techniques of social sciences with the factual social policy.
