Course objectives:
|
Introducing to the historical development in the Czech lands from the period of the Thirty Years' War to 1815 (political, economic, cultural development; incorporation into a wider European context; everyday life). Presenting means and methods for work with literature and historical sources concerning this period.
Analyzing and criticizing different points of view about selected issues Czech modern history.
Providing a survey over fluctuating reception of events in the Czech historical consciousness and of topics normally used for exercises. Providing space for students´ presentations and discussions within the seminars. The partial aim is to introduce the possibility of linking the problems of this course and school practice the basics of didactics of history.

(To credit) Instructions for assessment and signature:
Oral paper within the seminar. Possible is also a group work, presented by two to three students using the teaching techniques. Students with an individual curriculum will draw up a written seminar text, according to the standards. Written seminar works are due to workshops in order to balance capacity. Accompanying PowerPoint presentations are welcome. Papers will be assessed in the seminars, written work can be handed in till the end of Semester.
The second condition for the assessment signature is a test exam (historical events, historical literature and terms)

2. Characteristics of the reign of Leopold I., Joseph I., Charles VI.
3. Economic and social development in the 17th and 18th centuries. Mercantilism; physiocracy; improvement in manufacturing; aristocratic estates; patents for socage; bondsmen rebellion (1680, 1695)
4. Baroque civilization in the Czech lands / 1st part.
5. Baroque in the Czech lands / 2nd part. Rococo, Classicism, Empire style.
6. Enlightenment. Characteristics of the reign of Maria Theresa. First reforms; Austrian Succession's War; Seven Years War / 1st part.
7. Characteristics of the reign of Maria Theresa. Further reform; Austrian Succession´s War; Seven Years? War / 2nd Part.
8. Characteristics of the reign of Joseph II., Emperor Joseph's reforms. The period of Leopold II.
9. Characteristics of the reign of Franz I. Wars against France. Congress of Vienna, the Holy Alliance.
10. Origins of Czech national movement; emerging of a modern Czech nation; important personages; Bohemian institutions .
11. Forthcoming of Czech national movement (1815- 1848); important personages; Bohemian institutions.
12. Economic and social development within the first half of the 19th century. Industrial Revolution; improvement in agricultural production.
13. Final test.
