Course objectives:
This course is intended for postgraduates/Masters students. The subject focuses on human osteology. Students will be introduced into the human skeleton from the anatomical and functional point of view. They will adopt fundamental terminology of the skeletal structure, anatomy and the skeletal regions functioning. Practical skills are going to be practiced as the students will use them in the fieldwork. Besides these fundamental skills, the course aims also at recognizing taphonomical agents acting on bones after they were deposited to the ground, at our ancestors' adaptations to various climatic and cultural conditions reflected in the bone's morphology and at general bone plasticity and its ability to remodel according to its functional needs. Students will use real specimens, either coming from dissections or archeological sites.
Requirements on student
Students are expected to attend the lectures and especially seminars ready and willing to work. It is their responsibility to read all the literature required, know the content of lectures, have the basic drawings of the bones discussed ready and the oral analysis of the anatomical terms (relevant chapters from Čihák 2001). The course is accomplished by credit and final exam.
