Course objectives:
|
The class introduces current theoretical thinking and empirical research in the areas of social stratification and mobility as they are practiced in today's sociology. The class strongly emphasizes comparative research and transformations of inequalities in modern western as well s developing democracies. The main areas include the definition of class and status and their measurement, inter- and intra-generational mobility, inequality of education opportunity, family and assortative mating.
