Course objectives:
|
The course builds on previous knowledge acquired in the subjects of History of Art in Pedagogical Reflections 1 and 2, mainly on the acquisition of art theory and approach to the analysis of artworks as well as on the knowledge of the development of art in previous historical periods. The aim of the course is to provide the student with an overview of the development of modern art from the art of Impressionism until the middle of the 20th century in the form of lectures and visual presentations, as well as through active participation of students. At the beginning of the semester the students choose a topic to elaborate on in the form of a paper, making use of professional literature and their own in-depth analyses. Students will get an overview of changes in the concepts and functions of art in society, will acquire the practical skills of analysis of works of art, will get acquainted with the principal characteristics and foremost representatives of the discussed avant-garde art movements.

6. Dadaism and Surrealism
7. The origins of Czech avant-garde art, the question of modernity
8. Reflection of cubism in Czech art, Czech cubist architecture and applied art
9. Czech Surrealism and Arteficialism
10. Bauhaus and applied art
11. Czech Architecture between the two wars and Art in the Second World War
12. Theoretical reflection of modernism
13. Excursions to a museum or gallery - according to the thematic focus of the course

to explain the typology and periodization of the development of art from the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century; |
to name the most important representatives of each period; |
to characterize the work of the foremost artists from the period of Impressionism to the 1950s; |
to characterize the artistic expression of individual periods and to situate it in time; |
to describe the development of artistic expression with regard to the historical context. |
