Course objectives:
|
The course aims to introduce students to basic problems and terminology, so that they can apply their knowledge in their studies of specialized and technical texts and manage to practice. The course introduce students to basic conceptions of translatology, attention is aimed to the topics e.g. problems of translation in the communication, translation process, problems of adequacy and equivalency, shifts etc. Emphasis is put on specific problems of translation of technical and specialized text. Students can apply the theoretical knowledge gained from this course in practically oriented courses.

Translation organizations. Translation literature and periodical. Translation and interpreting rates. Translation and interpreting agencies.
The subject of trantlatology, prescriptive and descriptive attitude. Translation and interpreting. Translation as a communication act.
Translators´ competence.
Translations, essence and types of translations. Linguistic view.
Equivalence and adequacy. Types of equivalents.
Interpretation as the essence of translation. Translation of therminology.
Translation of realia, phraseology, puns, neologisms, archaisms, historicisms. Translation of names of companies, organizations and literary pieces.
Communication globalization and its consequences for translation. Translation as intercultural communication. Critique of translation, criterions of appraisal.
