Course objectives:
|
The aim is to give students theoretical knowledge and prepare them to provide geriatric-nursing care to elderly clients, including a valid nursing diagnosis and consistent nursing practice based on evidence.

Requirements on student
|
Active approach. Completion of 2 nursing plans of geriatric patients with selected diseases. Final test - 90% success rate. Oral examination of curriculum.

Definition of comprehensive geriatric assessment and its components. Clinical examination geriatric patient. Selected specialized part of a comprehensive geriatric examinations, tests of self-sufficiency, risk of pressure sores, evaluate the risk of falls, pain intensity measurements, assessment of nutritional status, prioritize patient needs. Geriatric fragility and instability. Etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment options, complications, prevention, physical examination sister, evaluation and measurement techniques, assessment of patient needs, determine the nursing problem. Immobility, instability, incontinence. Etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment options, complications, prevention. Intellectual disorders dementia, depression, delirium, behavioral disorders, geriatric syndrome terminal deterioration. Etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment options, complications, prevention. Patients with large geriatric syndromes. Anorexia syndrome, malnutrition and dehydration in geriatric patients. Etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment options, complications, prevention. Maladjustment syndrome. Issues of cruelty, neglect and abuse of elderly person. Forms of torture and abuse of seniors, diagnosis, age discrimination, possible solutions by health professionals, self-help groups and intervention centers. Non-specific symptoms of the disease. Changes in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and drug-drug interactions in the elderly. Side effects. Polymorbidity, polypharmacy. The patient's willingness to cooperate (compliance) with drug therapy. Specifics of nursing care. Syllabus of lectures: Specifics of nursing care of geriatric patient: physical examination sister using rating scales, assessment of patient needs, determine the nursing problem Nursing care for patients with large geriatric syndromes. Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
Student: - Describes a comprehensive functional assessment of geriatric patients - Describes the evaluation of the level of autonomy of the patient, using rating scales, monitoring and evaluation of status and risk factors of patients in terms of the possibility of complications and emergencies. - Describes the prevention, diagnosis, treatment of the most common major geriatric syndromes (somatic, psychological, social), defines the particularities of pharmacological treatment in gerontology - Identify current needs and their influencing in relation to daily life activities in patients older age groups. - Describes the assessment of the condition of patients and draw up a plan of nursing care respecting the particularities of approach to patients with diseases of internal organs and characterizes the implementation and evaluation of nursing care of geriatric patients. - Defines the specifics of educational opportunities caregivers in providing care for the elderly in their own social environment, describes the educational possibilities of patients in the care of their health in their own social environment and the prevention of complications, - Describes the assessment of the social situation of the patient and describe the possibilities of social assistance in geriatric patients. |
