Course objectives:
|
The course presents medical sociology as a science focusing on medicine, health and illness from the sociological point of view. Students get aquinted with representative topics such as the social construction of health and illness, the concept of authoritative knowledge and power inequalities, the history and criticism of Western biomedicine, the influence of technology and the process of technologisation, midwifery and birth etc. The crucial theoretical approaches of T.Parsons and M. Foucault wil be also discussed. The course employs cross-cultural studies of medicine as well as theoretical approaches of medical anthropology.

Requirements on student
|
Students are required to read assigned literature during the semester and write an essay on assigned topics. The exam is written or oral.
The processing of learning tasks is the essential part of this course. The learning tasks are controlled continuously by teacher. Texts for study are elaborated in required form (essay, presentation, resume, synopsis, abstract).

rozlišit variabilitu genderu a zdraví (reprodukční zdraví mužů a žen - klíčová témata: porod, neplodnost, asistovaná reprodukce, genderové nerovnosti ve zdraví, mortalita a morbidita dle genderu, duševní zdraví a gender, gender a smrt a umírání, genderové aspekty bolesti). |
vyložit různé metodologické přístupy a jejich dopad na různé verze studia genderu a zdraví. |
charakterizovat různé typy konfliktů mezi teoretickými a metodologickými přístupy při studiu genderu a zdraví. |
vyjmenovat a charakterizovat klíčové studie zaměřené na problematiku genderu a zdraví. |
