Course objectives:

The course enhances the students´skills of producing specialized written text, specifically a commercially themed essay. Attention will be paid not only to adequate language but also logical organization of the text and its formal appurtenances. At the outset of the course, students will learn about the basic characteristics of academic English and the language required for its production. Furthermore, attention will be paid to the organization of specialized text, the structure and organization of paragraphs, cohesion and coherence. Emphasis will also be placed on working with sources and literature, with the students learning to correctly use the citation and reference system, to paraphrase the source text and to summarize information. In addition to language and style exercises, the seminars will also contain the analysis of authentic essays and and their appurtenances. The output the course involves the analysis of authentic essays and their components. The output is the student's ability to write coherent and cohesive essays meeting all formal requirements.
