Course objectives:
|
The aim of this course is to socialize the students with modern approaches to analysis of public policy, extending and deepening their knowledge from previous study, and allowing for practical application of these approaches on specific examples. It will introduce extended conceptualizations of basic terms of public policy in the context of the historical development of both Anglophone and continental research in this area, present approaches, theories and research designs allowing the students to understand policy analysis and test theories through application of particular research designs, prepare policy papers on pressing issues of public policy (mostly) in the Czech Republic and in Central and Eastern Europe. To secure better understanding and pinpoint potential risks of such undertakings, lectures will focus on critical methodologies as well as on the possibilities and limits of social research. The course focuses on interdisciplinary social science methodologies and thir capability in the world of public policy practice.

Requirements on student
|
The course is concluded by a final oral examination. Only students who have received the credit can attend the examination. Credit requirements include participation in seminars and preparing all assignments in due time.

The paradigmatic development of public policy - the plurality of political realities 4. Approaches to public policy research (theory of science) 5. Research design, methodology, methods - relations between them and risks involved 6. Empirical corpus and public policy documents 7. Defining a research problem - principles and risks 8. Defining a research problem and the risks of policy goals 9. Approaches to referent object in research (structuralist and subjectivist approaches) 10. Identification of actors and policies (analysis of actors, arenas and networks) 11. Research goals and their formulation 12. Formulation and evaluation of alternatives 13. Evaluation techniques and possibilities of further research in a given public poilicy environment
