Course objectives:
|
The course is focused on archaeology and artifactual elements of culture from the turn of the 18th to the end of the 20th century on various chosen sites in Poland. Attention is paid to theory and methodology of this new discipline. Lectures and seminars enable the students to gain new knowledge about urban as well as rural transformation during the Industrial revolution, secularization of the Church structures and also conflict archaeology. Emphasized will be the wide specter of features from the First and Second World War and other traces of crimes from the war periods and the era of Communism. Apart from comparison of written accounts to the archaeological sources, possibility of using memories of the living witnesses is accented as well.

The knowledge of the presented subject matter as well as orientation in the recommended literature, seminar work.

4. Fortresses, chateaux, palaces, parks.
5. Churches and monasteries; graves of soldiers from rebellions and wars.
6. Industrial revolution and industrial archeology.
7. Military features from the First and Second World War.
8. Traces of the Nazi crimes - places of mass executions and graves, concentration camps.
9. Traces of the Communistic crimes - places of the mass executions and graves in the forms Soviet Union, graves of the victims and sentences of death from the People´s Republic of Poland.
