Course objectives:
|
The main part of this course is discussion of key papers on philosophical and methodological problems of science. In particular, classical works should be explored, but other works important for the formation of the doctoral research profile (R. Descartes, I. Kant, H. Poincaré, J. Dewey, AN Whitehead, B. Russell, R. Carnap, AJ Ayer, K. Popper, TS Kuhn, I. Lakatos, PK Feyerabend, J. Hintikka and others) will be also discussed. The students' dissertation topics will be taken into account in the process of selection of authors and works. The course is intended for students of doctoral studies at Faculty of Arts and is also offered in English.

Content
|
In the course students perform primarily their own interpretation of the classic texts on philosophy and methodology of science (Popper, Kuhn, Lakatos etc.). They link resulting findings with the methodology and content of their own research in order to implement the acquired knowledge to structure their dissertations. The aim of the course is primarily to ensure that students acquire basic methodological rules of scientific research and with their help they can be able better formulate their own professional texts and contents of the dissertation. Czech and foreign experts visiting the department are also involved in teaching as possible to provide students with the latest trends in research and methodology and to ensure that methodological level of students's reasonigs and results is at the level of international research.
