Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to introduce students into basics of Greek philosophical terminology. The course focuses both basics of Greek grammar and fundamental Greek philosophical terms. The latter are outlined by means of a reading of selected excerpts of ancient philosophical works.

Content
|
Showing grammatical phenomena and specific terminology on selected philosophical texts. Basics of Greek grammar: declension of substantives articles; the verb einai; declension of pronouns; infinitive and indicative mood of active and mediopassive present tense of basic Greek verbs; past tenses of Greek verb; adverbs formation; prepositions; conjugation of adjectives; forming and comparing of adverbs.

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
Students acquire basics of Greek grammar, and learn to use and to form basic grammatical categories actively. They know Greek philosophical terminology. They manage to orient in Greek philosophical texts basically and to find there familiar passages, which they knew only from translations so far and which they are capable to verify and to grasp properly now. |
