The aim of the course is to introduce the fundamental milestones in the history of the United States of America from colonial times till the present in different perspectives (political, economic, cultural, demographic development).

European colonies in North America. - War of Independence. - Expansion to the West, dealing with the indigenous peoples. - The problem of slavery, North against South. - U.S. and the First World War. - The world economic crisis of the thirties. - U.S. in World War II. - Movement for Human Rights. - USA and the role of "world policeman".
