Course objectives:
|
The course is designed for PhD studies of the Ethnology. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with folklore and folklore manifestations of the regions of Western Bohemia - so-called wider Pilsen, Chodsko, Chebsko, Krušnohoří, and Pošumaví, with cross-over to Bavaria and Saxony.

Topic areas for the examination and topics of seminar works are set and assigned by the guarantor of the subject at the beginning of classes. The exam takes place before an examining board.

Content
|
1. Regional division based on political territorial structure, ethnographic division, their consistency and differences 2. Folklore studies and related sciences (linguistics, literary theory and history, musical science, history, sociology, etc.) 3. Classification of folklore genres 4. Contact zones and their specifics in the transmission of folklore (Czech-Bavarian and Czech-Saxon borderlands) 5. Issues of collection of folkloric material and its development from the beginning of the 19th century to the present, types of field research 6. Folklore of Czechs and Czech Germans, its development and division, Institutions (archives, museums, higher education institutions, and scientific institutes), professional journals, web portals, etc. 7. Interpretation of folklore - types of performers, folkloric situations and their changes 8. Folklorism - mass media (print, radio, television, CD, DVD, internet), education, literature, publishing, visual arts, scenic folklore, festivals, competitions, exhibitions, etc. 9. Work with sources of a folkloric nature. Editions of folkloric material, their development, nature and purpose. 10. Folklore as a part of the traditional expressions in Western Bohemia, the Bavarian and Saxon borderlands
